I combine several painting techniques in a way that unlocks my imagination and lets me “see” shapes, or animals or patterns develop in the colour field that is created. Every piece blooms in its own season. The thrill of discovery, of seeing a shape conjured up before my eyes and then the wonder in how I am seeing this, & the joy of manifesting the image into being.
Happenstance is a circumstance that occurs by chance or coincidence. It’s an unpredictable event that may have a significant impact on your life or your mindset.
Happenstance Art is a term I have coined for the loose process of combining techniques I use to organically and spontaneously create mixed media paintings and drawings. I covet the surprises, the unexpected turns and thrill of working without a plan.
I began my creative journey by learning some fundamentals of sacred geometry and creating mandalas. There is comfort in the setting of the first dot - the first circle sketched with pencil and compass, and then the story begins to unfold. These meditative and ancient touchstones are reimagined by weaving together symbols of different cultures, eras, and religions. All is one.
Veil painting involves building up color and depth with successive washes of transparent watercolor. Each wash, or veil, must dry before painting another one in the same area. It requires mindfulness & patience, and the reward is a gorgeous layering of tertiary colours and atmosphere, evoking the ephemeral translucence found in stained glass & silk scarves.
This series explores the mysteries and the magic of our vital organs and how they relate to our emotional body, personality, memories & spirit. The more we think we understand scientifically, the more questions appear.
